Wrap Then in Love

World Wide Quilting Bee--Day 3

Welcome to a fantastic weekend of quilting for Wrap Them in Love. This is a great way to kick off our year and start on our way to providing 2000 children with quilts in the year 2000!

Every morning it is great to wake up with a note from Ulrika in Sweden. While we are still sleeping, she has been already working!

Good morning! It's Sunday, 10 a.m. here. So, that should be about 3 a.m. in Chicago. It's -17 C/1.4 F outside and the sun is shining from a clear blue sky. It's beautiful! I've just had my morning tea and now I want to get started! I'm going to start by finishing the cat top. It's great to see all the photos of quilts here! Gives me inspiration and joy! DH's parents are coming for a visit this afternoon, so I won't get much sewing done then, I really want to spend time with them. They are truly wonderful people!
Ok, so what am I waiting for? Get busy Ulrika!

1 p.m. Kopparberg time, 6 a.m. Chicago time. :-) I have finished the cat top, but I'm not happy with it. I don't like the placement of the cats and the shape of the top is weird. I think I'll add some more border to the sides. It's a beautiful day here, sunshine and glistening snow outside and about -15 C/5 F. I'm going to take a break now, DH's parents will be here any minute. I'll sew more later.

and then of course, there is Tracy in Australia. She has been having quite a time with the power, but has been able to make the best of it!

Hi there everyone - I bet you all have your eyes hanging six inches from your heads! *not a good look lol* Well, how this for poopy. Its summer here in Oz. Well you wouldn't think it at the moment. Its chucking it down in bucketfuls! Well thats not the poopy bit. This is. This is the WTIL weekend. And the power has been off for several hours today. Aaargh! So instead of getting mad, I cut more quilts. Several bazillion of them. Just to get even. How dare the power go out? Not THIS weekend? DH was getting the generator ready so I wouldn't climb the walls. Then I got cutting, and all was OK . Then the power came back on, and all is well with the world again *sigh* I can't believe how well everyone is doing. But I think there is toooo much fun being had. Surely thats slowing you girls down :) back I go to the sewing machine. I have really had a great time this weekend, and want to get involved in the next one in March as well. This time I will get better prepared and enlist more troops in my endeavours to beat those BBB's and the Norty F's. (Could this be done?)
Huge hugs,
Tracy

I'm going to grab a cup of tea and get ready for everyone to arrive at the store and get busy. We had a great time yesterday, and even managed to convince several people (who had only come downstairs to see what all of the laughing was about) to stay and help for awhile. I am amazed that today is Sunday already----and the last day of our great World Wide Quilting Bee. The time has really flown by. I know that we are all totally exhausted, but feeling so good about the whole thing. I keep hearing that everyone wants to do this again, and I think that each group has more or less scheduled another date. I know that besides doing a great thing for "our children" that there are some wonderful friendships being made because of this. Keep those e-mails and pictures coming so that I can keep adding to our webpage.

Cindy from New York is busy sewing this morning...

Howdy all,
As of last night I have 20 blocks ready to start putting together. It is 6:15 am on Sunday and I will send DH to church without me. and after breckfast will get back to work.

Florida is awake----I can already hear their machines humming...

Hey all,
Here we are, 4 of us up and at'em already this morning....the sun is shining and the sky is blue....we are at the point of getting backs on the 50 or so tops we have completed and will be doing some machine quilting and binding today....Hopefully Janet will be back today to get us started on that. Now mind you...the Stash that ate Hollywood has barely had a dent put into it so we could continue to do tops until the next eclispe (which by the way was really cool to watch while flying over the gulf) but we need to raise our number of COMPLETED quilts a bit today while we are still strong in number.
We will keep in touch and are looking forward to hearing more from all of you out there.
Pam *¿* and gang!!!!!!

Lauri and her little girls have been working hard in Maryland. Remember that her girls are only 3 & 5 years old! Nobody is too young to help!

Hi.. is me and my little girls toiling away this weekend.. admittedly, haven't had much sewing time.. but I"ve just about finished one top.. Just pieced a bunch of strips and squared them off.. Then I cut solid blue and solid white squares and alternated them. My kids helped with giving me strips, plannng the squares, guiding the fabric, pushing the footpedal and the backstich button :)
You all are doing great.
Big Hugs,
Lauri in MD

I love getting notes from Cher in Oregon. She always has a special way of saying things...

I am ready to cut borders for my top and then it is machine quilting time for me. My first baby quilt for wtil ever and meets my goal of at least one per month. I applaud those of you doing one a day, maybe in the years to come I can gain that type of expertise and speed-but-I am happy to do my small part.
Remember, whatever we contribute, it is all with love from our hearts and that is what is most important of all. Having fun doing it is just such a bonus :-)

Ulrika in Sweden has already put in a hard day's work while the rest of us are just starting our day.

8 p.m., I just finished another small top. This was a fun one to make, even though it's just squares sewn together. The fabrics really made me smile. Bright and funny! This weekend has been so much fun! Last night Cindy in Syracuse called and it was great to talk to her! I've also chatted with Amanda i Utah, and Lauri in Maryland, as well as sending e-mails back and forth with several others. :-)
Ok, I think I will make one more top, it's so much fun! :-)

Lauri and the "Mini Quilters" have been busy in Maryland.

Hi all.. its almost 4 pm EST..I've FINALLY finished one top. I know I"m slow, but... anyway.. its done.. yeah!
Alex (my almost 6 year old daughter) and I have been tracing shapes for our 2n'd top. We are going to applique some geometric shapes on to blocks.
Gotta go put dinner in the oven.
Hugs to all you busy bees!!

As I am going through the e-mail and catching up with all of the notes and pictures to post here to you, I just came to the pictures from the BAMA BELLES!! It just will not do to try to put them here, there are soooo many! So, click and go off to the   BAMA BELLES BEE  page and check them out! At the bottom of the first page, you will find a link to page 2 AND 3 of their pictures!!!
Ulrika sends one more picture! I am so amazed at how many beautiful quilts that she has turned out this weekend!

It's 1:15 a.m. here, that's 6:15 p.m. in Chicago. I finished another top. I took a purple friendship star and then I just added strips of blue fabrics around it. So, that's 9 tops all in all for me this weekend. I'm going to bed now, but first I want to say that it has been a great weekend!! I have had so much fun making these tops, and it's been wonderful to be able to follow everyone else, through the website, and to see the photos of all the beautiful quilts made! I am so happy I was part of it. Big hugs to everyone! Good night from Sweden. :-)

Hilary in texas has really been working hard!

here comes another I made today.. It's all finished except binding..

Here's the 5th one.. This one is NOT quilted yet... I'm so sore and I just don't think I have it in me to do anymore quilting today.. This one is gonna have to wait.. But at least you have 5 good sized ones for the children..
hugs,Hilary

The ladies in California are still at it---

my favorite cuz it was a team effort. Carolyn brought the cut the strips from home, Kathryn sewed them together, and I cut and pieced it. Special thanks to my DH for doing up the pics. Been on my own today, Deborah was still too sick to come and I haven't heard from Andrea yet.

Nancy in texas is checking in:

Hi Everybody. Nancy in TX checking in. I've been silent until now but have really enjoyed reading about the good time everyone has been having. What a tremendous number of quilts has been turned out in the past few days. I found myself having to be away from home most of the day yesterday so wasn't able to do as much as I had planned. But I do have 4 completed tops to go with the 8 I had previously done. I have several more cut out or planned but think I need to stop and get some of the ones I've already done quilted so I can send them in to Ellen. I went to get some pictures but discovered I'm out of film so will have to pick some up tomorrow. Sure wish I could get a digital camera but that will have to wait a bit longer. I did manage to run into a hobby lobby yesterday while in Houston and found 4 different fabrics on the clearance racks (44cents/yd!!!) to use for quilt backs. This is good quality cotton fabric (Marcus Brothers and Debbie Mumm!) so I bought all that was left on those 4 bolts. Got 8 yds of 1, 9 yds of 2, and 10 yds of the last. That should keep me in backings for a little while. Then when I went into Wal-mart this morning to get DH some diet coke before he went into withdrawal I found a number of bright cheerful pieces in the remnant bins so of course I picked those up too. This should keep me sewing for another couple weeks anyway.
I might not have been able to do much this weekend, but I had a great time with what I did accomplish. I hope to be able to join the Bluebonnet Sues when they meet again in March. But if not, I'll still be sewing here right along with them.

A goodnight note from Alabama:

Linda and I are still at it, but I had to get up from the sewing machine and walk around to keep from going to sleep. This schedule of getting only 3 to 4 hrs sleep will soon catch up with me. We sewed today with 3 of my quilting friends and we managed to finish 10 or ll tops and Linda and I have each started another. She has posted the pictures but we are so busy we are having trouble keeping up with our progress. The final count will surely come when I box finished quilts and head for UPS. As we moved the finished ones and finished tops we decided we would need to ship in partial shipments. Two of my friends are going to take the class on machine quilting that Linda is going to take, so I'm counting on some good help in machine quilting all these tops. And yes, we need to get them finished before our session planned for March. My quilting club meets with me tomorrow and we plan to continue this wek-end project through Monday. I can hardly wait for Ellen to start making a weekly count to us of the tops and quilts that she receives for WTIL. Til our Monday night report.

Tuesday: Here is a note from Linda in Alabama:

Well, I got home at 5 pm last night after spending three nights away at Joy's sewing up until the wee small hours. What a wonderful time we had! I am not totally sure of the final tally but I think with the 21 we had and ones we made this weekend we have 52 or 53?? I have some sashing work to finish my last two, Betsy needed to add borders to her project as well and who knows what Joy picked up after she took Woody out for BBQ last night? Joy, I just love you to pieces and thanks for putting me up for few nights.
It is great to work with a group of dedicated piecers/quilters like this locally. Until I met Joy this summer I had not met any local quilters during our then two year stay here in Alabama. Joy's friend Marti was the only one from her regular group that was able to sit down and sew with us and was there most of the weekend. The others have no sewing/quilting group to go to, just like me. So not only where we sewing together this weekend and having a great time doing it, but we are forming another group that will meet everything other Thursday. This group will continue to support WTIL in its efforts and not just sit and quilt on our own projects and that seed was planted because of the world wide quilting day.
I have a story to tell--I decided to make a 3D bowtie about 4 pm on Saturday and dug into Joy's box of 3 inch blocks to pick out the fabrics. Joy wanted to see how to make them and I showed her. Then Marti wanted to learn how too and we showed her. I finished up the top at 2 am and Marti came back Sunday with three larger blocks in her hand that she will use for a project for a family member. Betsy came to finish up her railfence quilt and saw what we were doing with the bowties and Marti showed her how to make them. When I asked her if she wanted to make another rail fence since Joy had cut out two more, she said "no, I want to make one like the one you did" and dug into the 3 inch box. She had it all done except for borders yesterday afternoon at 5. Marti did the rail fence. We will have more pictures when we get our "homework"done.
... I wanted to say how proud I am to be a part of this effort and to sew with you all.
Joy and I are planning another session for March 3, 4 and 5th for Bama Belles and honorary BB's too.
Linda J
