May 2000 WTIL BOM

The May Block of the Month is appropriately a basket block but is different in that it is upright rather than on point as many baskets patterns are. I do not know the pattern source; it was one that I got from Joy who used something similar in a BOM she had hosted in the past. Her pattern has one more light and dark colored triangle in the top two rows and an extra row. I was unable to get it drawn correctly in EQ4 so just gave up and decided I like it like this.

Like the other blocks we have posted it is meant to be a 12-inch finished block. Templates and drafting will be required to get the correct sizes for the triangles and side pieces. Use your favorite applique technique for the handle using one half of the background fabric piece and then joining it to the pieced base.

Wouldn’t this be pretty filled with appliqued flowers, yo yo’s or prairie points?
